Less to worry about, more things to enjoy.
A community that feels like home
With fewer than 80 apartments and 10 villas, The Grove is deliberately smaller than most retirement villages. That means you'll know your neighbours by name. You'll see familiar faces in the residents' lounge. And you'll always have someone to share a cuppa with in the downstairs cafe.
The heart of our community is the shared spaces. The café and lounge is the perfect place for catching up with friends or hosting family. Choose a book from the library, play a game of pool or billiards, enjoy a workout in the gym or relax in the spa. The outdoor garden oasis is protected from the winds – and the perfect place to relax with a book, or do some gardening if the mood takes you.
The Grove café is open on weekdays from 9am to 3pm, and from 10am to 2pm on Open Days.
Orewa becomes your backyard
At The Grove, your world doesn't shrink - it expands. Because when everything is flat walking distance away, you find yourself out and about more than ever.
The beach is four minutes from your front door. Not a drive - a walk. Pop down for a morning stroll, watch the tide come in with a flat white, or take the grandkids for a paddle.
But it's not just the beach. Orewa is a beautiful community with everything you need:
Orewa Beach - 4 minutes
Cafes and restaurants - 5 minutes
Orewa Bowling Club - 5 minutes
Estuary walks - 5 minutes
Supermarket - 10 minutes
Library - 10 minutes
Medical centre - 10 minutes
Centrestage Theatre - 10 minutes
Many residents tell us they use their car far less than before. When you can walk to the shops, meet friends at a cafe, or catch a show at the theatre, life becomes simpler.
What our residents say
"It’s an independent lifestyle here. Everybody’s youthful, alert and involved in things in both the village and community."
Independent living, on your terms
The Grove isn't a care facility. It's a community of independent people who happen to live in the same place.
You set your own schedule. Come and go as you please. Travel when you want. The lock-and-leave lifestyle means you can visit the grandkids in Wellington or take that trip to the South Island without worrying about the house.
There are social activities if you want them - morning teas, happy hours, exercise classes, outings. But there's no pressure to join in. Some residents are at every event. Others prefer their own company. Both are perfectly fine.
If you ever do need a hand, support is there. Emergency call buttons are standard in all apartments and villas, which gives you extra security. Regular wellness checks are available with a Nurse Consultant who visits each week. But the focus here is on keeping you in your own home, living independently, for as long as possible.
More time to do what you want, rather than what you have to do.
One of the great things about retirement villages, is that we take care of so many of the things that cause people stress in their later years. For example, we take care of all the exterior maintenance, common spaces, and gardens and lawns.
We take care of rates and insurance – all you need to worry about is insuring your contents and your car. You can choose your own electricity provider and get the benefits of some that have free power hours – all up to you. Many of our residents are surprised about how low their power bills are – with great insulation and double glazed windows, apartments hold the heat well. All the costs are included in a weekly fee – and the great thing about The Grove Orewa – that weekly fee is Fixed for Life – so even as costs go up, that’s our problem not yours!
Even better, as superannuation increases – you keep the difference in your pocket!
